The Influence Spinner is the HOW of the game...

Learn how the Influence Spinner works in the Storytelling Board Game, it explains the "how" the story happens!
🌪️ The Influence Spinner - Your board game storytelling encounter assistance
In Mythopouch, board game encounters don’t end when the modifier is applied. That’s only the resulting outcome. The story still needs to be told.
👉 That’s where the Influence Spinner comes in.

🤔 When the Influence Spinner Is Used
The Influence spinner is spun after all moves have been exhausted by the player during their turn. Not every turn gets to spin the Influence spinner, it all depends on whether there is an encounter and what type of encounter is rolled on the Encounter die.

🌀 What the Influence Spinner Does
The Influence Spinner does not change the result. It defines how the story is told. The icon it lands on becomes your storytelling prompt - guiding how the encounter unfolds.
🪙 Tier 1's Influence Spinner

These are the first four storytelling elements players learn to master. They are simple, clear, and powerful. Encounters are not always positive, so they can have a negative influence also!
👁️
Eye - Observe / Think / Understand
The Eye is about awareness.
This is a moment of thinking, noticing, or realisation. The encounter is shaped through understanding rather than action. Not seeing, thinking or understanding is the negative side of this influence - being temporarily blinded or misinterpreting what you saw could also apply.
It represents:
- Observe (+)
- Insight (+)
- Thinking (+)
- Understanding (+)
- Awareness (+)
- Learning before acting(+)
- Blindness (-)
- Inability to see (-)
- Misinterpreting what you saw (-)
🎲 Example: You encounter something on a Positive/Good result.
- Instead of acting immediately, you study it. You notice patterns, behaviour, or hidden meaning. What seemed difficult becomes manageable because you understood it first.
👉 The outcome is shaped through thought.

🔥
Flame - Act / Be Bold / Inspire
The Flame is action.
This is movement, energy, and forward momentum. Something happens because you make it happen. It can also have negative aspects like acting impulsively, rashly and without thinking. Anger and lashing out could also apply here.
It represents:
- Courage (+)
- Inspiration (+)
- Acting upon impulse (-/+)
- Bold decisions (-/+)
- Immediate action (-/+)
- Rash decisions (-)
🎲 Example: You encounter a challenge on a Bad result.
- Instead of retreating, you act. Your boldness shifts the situation and you suffer negative effects because of your rashness.
👉 The outcome is shaped through action.

🌿
Leaf - Rest / Heal / Nature
The Leaf is calm.
This is a slower moment - recovery, connection to nature, or allowing something to settle rather than forcing it. It is also about the dangers of nature, such as poisonous plants, dangerous natural terrain and the inability to heal.
It represents:
- Healing (+)
- Recovery (+)
- Balance (+)
- Natural flow (-/+)
- Nature or natural things (-/+)
- Poison or poisonous plants (-)
🎲 Example: You encounter a neutral moment.
- Instead of pushing forward, you pause. You wait and observe your surroundings, but no insight or inspiration comes to you.
👉 The outcome is shaped through stillness.

🛡️
Shield - Protect / Defend / Help Others
The Shield is protection.
This is about defence, support, and preventing harm - either to yourself or others. At the same time is also about the inability to perform these positive aspects, like the inability to defend yourself or protect others.
It represents:
- Defence (+)
- Support (+)
- Protection (+)
- Helping Others (+)
- Responsibility (+)
- Inability to block or defend (-)
- Inability to help others (-)
🎲 Example: You encounter danger on a Bad result.
- Instead of attacking, you defend. You hold your ground, but in this instance you probably should of escaped or run away. Your decision to defend has cost you the negative effects.
👉 The outcome is shaped through protection.

⚖️ Why This System Works
Each icon answers a simple question: 👉 How does this moment play out?
Eye → Think or observe
Flame → Acting now
Leaf → Nature or natural
Shield → Defend and protect
It gives players direction without removing creativity. These are Tier 1's four icons. Look at the front of any entity cards pictured from the game and see if you can figure out what will happen in the future of Mythopouch...
📚 Mythopouch Storytelling Board Game - Turn Outcome & Story Example
It's your turn:
1. Roll the Movement Die
2. Pick up any Game cards - if you landed on an applicable board game tile (these are identified on the board)
3. Flip the Encounter token (if No, your turn has ended, STORY DECISION)
4. Collect the Encounter token, randomly from the Mythopouch and find the matching entity card
5. Roll the Encounter Die (Good / Neutral / Bad / Bonus Encounter/Token. If Neutral, your turn ends - STORY DECISION)
6. Look at the entity card modifier (if applicable)
7. Spin the Influence Spinner and understand its influence
8. DECIDE what happens
DECIDING WHAT HAPPENS
Let's discuss one complete Mythopouch storytelling board game player turn scenario, where most events are triggered from the turn.
You are King Arthur
1. Roll the Movement Die = 4
2. Pick up any Game cards - if you landed on an applicable board game tile = YES - Persuasion Card
2. Flip the Encounter Coin (if No, your turn has ended STORY DECISION) = YES
4. Collect the Encounter token, randomly from the Mythopouch and find the matching entity card = Pegasus
5. Roll the Encounter Die (Good / Neutral / Bad / Bonus Encounter/Token. Neutral your turn ends STORY DECISION) = Good Outcome
6. Look at the entity card modifier (if applicable) = Move +1, same Agility/Behaviour +1
7. Spin the Influence Spinner and understand its influence = Shield (Protect, Defend or Help Others)
8. DECIDE the story from the outcomes, lets review the outcomes below
OUTCOME
1. Move 4 spaces
2. Picked up Persuasion Card (Food)
3. Yes, there is an Encounter
4. The Encounter is Pegasus
5. The outcome is Good/Positive
6. Pegasus's Good/Positive outcome is move +1 tile space on the game board, if King Arthur's Agility or Behaviour is the same or higher move an extra +1 tile space (Pegasus's Behaviour icon matches King Arthur's)
7. This encounter is influenced by the Shield, so it involves protecting, defending or helping others
8. DECIDE the story; look at the entity cards for inspiration if you need to. All entity cards have an abundance of detailed information about your entity you are playing and the entity you encounter, like: Persona, Traits, Positive Icons (including main), Negative Icon, Terrain Elemental Affinity Icon, Morality, Behaviour, Facets (Statistics)
📖 Mythopouch's Imagined Story for this Outcome
King Arthur is on a mysterious quest through mysterious lands to see an old friend, he lost his horse when it was spooked by a large wild boar.

On the fourth day (he moved 4 tile spaces) he finds a small village that has been damaged from a freak hailstorm. King Arthur stops and helps the villagers repair their homes (honouring his Persuasion, which is acts of "Service"), all the while feeling as if being watched.

As a reward, the villagers offer him a large stash of food, which he humbly accepts and packs away (Persuasion Card = Food).

As he gets ready to leave, a Pegasus flies down to him. He understands telepathically that the Pegasus saw his act of service to the villagers (Good/Positive encounter outcome & Influence Spin = Shield/helping others) and offers to fly him two days (+1/+1 good encounter modifier) forward in his quest, which he happily accepts.

Simpler Rules for Beginners or Young Players 🌱
This is just an example of someone playing the game, who understands the game and the characters. You don't have to play to this level of detail, but the Mythopouch storytelling board game asks that you become a better storyteller on the go. Teaching you to think for yourself, creatively and faster, without the aid of computers or electronic devices.
For younger or beginning players, you can simply start with the outcomes, then grow into telling the story. This is why the Mythopouch learning program courses are important; quests and courses teach you about the game entities. This helps you develop scenarios for the entities on their journeys.

🧩 How a Mythopouch Turn Becomes a Story
A Mythopouch turn naturally provides the basic elements needed to build a story. The game does not write the story for you. Instead, the different results give you the Who, What, Where & When, Why and How, and you connect them together!
Using the King Arthur and Pegasus example:

🧩 Putting It Together
The game has already supplied most of the pieces:
Who → King Arthur, the villagers and Pegasus
What → Travel, help, reward, encounter and movement
Where & When → A damaged village during Arthur's ongoing quest
Why → Arthur's purpose, his Service Persuasion and the need to help others
How → The Shield Influence shapes the encounter through help and and assistance
The player then connects those pieces into one believable sequence.
👉 Mythopouch provides the storytelling elements. You decide how they become the story.

💡 Out of Ideas?
If you ever get stuck, look at:
- Your character card
- The encounter
- The spinner result
Then ask:
- What makes sense here?
- What fits the moment?
- What would this character actually do?
- What is common between them OR what could cause tension?
👉 The answer is always there.
